Ferrari, a world-renowned supercar brand, has launched its new 12-cylinder hard-top spider model 812 GTS and eight-cylinder hard-top spider model F8 Spider in Korea. The two vehicles, the first of its kind in Korea at the Ferrari Cheongdam exhibition hall, are the latest sports model lineups representing the brand's 12-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines, respectively, while Ferrari further diversified its sports model lineups through the launch of the two vehicles.
First, Ferrari 812 GTS marks the spectacular revival of the 12-cylinder Spider lineup, which played a pivotal role in brand history, with a new lineup launched 50 years after Ferrari's last mass-produced 12-cylinder front-engine Spider model, 365 GTS4.
The model is a Spider version with both the specifications and performance of the 812 superfast, with a class-leading engine that pumps 800 horsepower, especially at 8,500 rpm. These improvements, like the 812 superfast, were possible with the optimization of engine design, the introduction of innovative technologies such as 350 bar direct injection engines, and the introduction of variable geometry inlet control systems of naturally aspirated F1 engine concepts. This increased the amount of exhaust from 6.2 liters to 6.5 liters, giving it the best torque at low speed rotations.
Also equipped with an 800-horsepower 12-cylinder engine, not only is it the most powerful Spider in the automotive industry, but it also has Ferrari's unique identity, which is highly rare. In addition, the application of a folding hardtop (RHT), which is rare within the segment, secured a relatively large trunk capacity, combining practicality.
On the design side, it was designed based on the 812 Superfast. It has applied the design language and ratio of the existing 12-cylinder front engine model and used the interior/external space and ride as it is to create a perfect blend of sportiness and elegance.
On top of this, a folding hardtop (RHT) that opens at speeds of 45 km/h or less in just 14 seconds is designed to not affect the interior space, providing the same amount of free driver space for hardtop installations as for coupe versions. The electronic rear screen can be opened when the saw is closed while keeping the wind off the open-top drive, allowing users to enjoy the soundtrack of the 12-cylinder natural intake air.
As a result, the 812 GTS emits the same performance as the 812 Superfast even when the roof is opened, while providing the best comfort even when the roof is closed. It takes less than 3 seconds to reach 100 km/h, 8.3 seconds to 200 km/h, and its maximum speed is 340 km/h the same as 812 Super Fast, showing that its performance is as powerful as 812 Super Fast overall.
Another open vehicle, the F8 Spider, is the F8 Tributo's open-top Spider model. The F8 Spider-equipped eight-cylinder engine is the most successful mid-air eight-cylinder engine in Ferrari's history, and is an upgraded version of the most successful eight-cylinder engine in Ferrari's history, which won the International Engine of the Year Awards for four consecutive years and was named the best engine among all engines that have won the engine awards for the past two decades in 2018. At 8000 rpm, it showed 720 horsepower of 3,902cc unit, with a maximum output of 185 horsepower per liter and maximum torque of 78.5 kg.m (based on 3,250 rpm).
The biggest achievement of the F8 Spider is to maintain the unrivaled soundtrack of the eight-cylinder engine while at the same time generating power without turbo-racking. Ferrari incorporated F1-based aerodynamic solutions built through racing experiences into the design to create such amazing performances and smooth handling.
The vehicle in question perfectly harmonized Ferrari's iconic folding hardtop (RHT) with the overall design of the F8 Tributo. In addition, the application of enhanced aerodynamic technology has a more sporty design and strong individuality. The engine cover, in particular, is a unique feature of the F8 Spider only, with the stingray-type cover located on the central spine, from the rear screen along the airflow down to the wing of the blistering spoiler.
Compared to the 488 Spider, the F8 Spider has achieved technological improvements in all sectors. The output increased by 50 horsepower, and the weight of the vehicle became 20 kilograms lighter. It has greater aerodynamic efficiency than the 488 Spider and is also equipped with the new 6.1 version side slip angle control system.
As a result, the F8 Spider has become a new benchmark for open-top sports cars in that it offers a highly utilized performance, excellent handling and even an amazing driving experience. It also has a comfortable ride, creating a combination of the unique features of the highly acclaimed eight-cylinder engine and the joy of driving.
Dieter Knechtel, head of Farari Far East and Middle East, said, "The 812 GTS and F8 Spider released in Korea will be the best choice for customers seeking the pleasure of driving with their best performance and open-top driving sensibility. Starting with this lineup, we are going to visit Korea with a variety of new cars that will give us the pleasure of driving this year, so please look forward to it said.
